On-line Portfolio /coursework

Students should publish their portfolio using either a free website or a weblog. They can visit Yahoo, geocities sign up and follow the instructions. Alternatively, they can go to blogger.com or blogspot.com and build their weblog!

It is required that they write two essays on familiar topics. The topics should be in agreement with the topics discussed throughout the course.

The essay should be the product of a student’s reading the literature and not the outcome of a “copy and paste” technique. Students who copy texts will get a zero mark and fail. Students who submit identical papers will not pass, either.

The length of each essay should be no less than 300 words.

Suggested topics are:

  1. Chemistry is ubiquitous. There are numerous chemistry fields. How wide are the applications of chemistry?
  2. Job opportunities in Chemistry. What are the requirements for a successful candidate?
  3. Potential energy shortage is a burning issue: What alternative sources have been exploited so far? What can be done?
  4. The Earth and its atmosphere: How do soil, water and air interact?
  5. Applications of distillation in industry.
  6. What are the potential hazards in a lab? What precautions should be taken?

As well as the essays, students will have to write (and publish) an introductory paragraph giving their personal profile. They should also write a paragraph evaluating the course and recommend ways of improvement. If they wish to add any more sections relevant to the course they are free to do it after consulting their tutor.
